This traditional icon of Saint Barbara the Great Martyr by Art Christiana is venerated by both Orthodox and Catholic Christians throughout Europe, but has been difficult to find the in the United States recently. Saint Barbara is depicted in her traditional role as a deaconess bringing the Holy Communion to people at the end of their lives, a role for which she is revered by Roman Catholics as one of the 14 Holy Intercessors.
