11-12:15 “Resources for Sacred World-Building” with Summer Kinard
Enriching the narrative of your creative nonfiction or fiction with accurate sensory details is one of the best ways to engage curiosity and attention. But how can you find out what people ate, drank, wore, and believed in the time period of the saints you’re writing about? This talk will give you a kickstart on worldbuilding with resources and tips. We’ll end with discussion and group-writing a scene applying what you learned. Resource list will be emailed to registrants after the conference.

2pm “Saints and Children” with Katie Reetzke
Weaving the lives of saints, historical settings, and modern lessons are a focus of Kathryn’s writings. Join her for a hands on discussion about writing about the saints for children. Choose a saint from the list provided, write a 3 sentence summary, narrative, message for kids ages 5-8. Kathryn will choose 3 anonymous examples from the pre-submitted entries to highlight in this discussion. Feel free to bring an additional saint you want to work on during this interactive lesson.

3:20-4:20pm Live Critiques from submissions

Registrants will receive the Zoom invitation via the email address they use at checkout. Any handouts from the speakers will be emailed after the event.
Writers who wish to participate in the live critique session should email up to 30 pages of their manuscript (or a full picture book manuscript if applicable) to editor@parkendbooks.com by July 2nd.
