In exchange for an honest review, I was given a free copy of “Little Steps” by Kathryn Reetzke.

Upon looking at the book, my first impression was that it was beautifully illustrated! Yostina Kaoud’s artwork is so lovely and truly captured the essence of Orthodoxy. We loved the depiction of the church, candles, icons, and royal doors.

The writing was simply laid out, easy to understand for a small child, and had values that aligned with our faith.

I think this is a stunning book that would make a great Pascha basket stuffer for your baby/toddler!

Little Steps is such a sweet board book to add to your library at home or in your church bag! The colorful illustrations really drew us into the dialogue of how we “climb” with the saints to Heaven. The words are simple but True and could supplement a Lenten Sunday School lesson perfectly! I have come to expect sound theology presented in an approachable way from author Katie Reetzke and loved the partnership with (new to me) illustrator Yostina Kaoud. They really brought this book to life! (I received a feee copy of the book in exchange for an honest review)

We were so excited to get this in the mail this week in exchange for our honest opinion! We have read it to our little ones a few times already. Our three-year-old kept pointing out things like the church or icons, he especially loved the dog which looks a lot like our family dog. The illustrations are adorable, bright and colorful and captured the attention of our little ones easily. The message was so simple and did not require a ton of words, which I loved, but it was still a good reminder to me of our who goal in Orthodoxy: working towards our holiness. We highly recommend this for your home library, your church bag, church book basket or nursery, or your homeschool library!

Little Steps has colorful illustrations, including Orthodox elements, and shares different ways kids can “climb” the ladder to Christ. Each page shows a child doing the action with the words, “I climb when…”

I love this concept, however I do wish there was a line or two explaining how the actions of “climbing” correlate with growing closer to Christ. Also, the illustrations with Christ’s icons has his hand in a position with one figure pointing up, which I’ve never seen and is therefore a bit confusing.

Overall, this is a cute book for little ones, but not something my children or I personally care for.
